#34 GILLIAN LINDSAY | Lighting Experiments

Gillian Lindsay, Canadian born photographer
http://gillianlindsay.ca/home.html
Gillian does a lot of light experiment in her works. In this work, she combines long exposure, double exposure, to create this charcoal-drawing-like series. I can slightly see women's bodies in the pictures, and sometime, even the side-face of a woman, however, i am never so sure. The very vague and blurry effects raise more interests from the audience, and leave more space for imagination.

#33 JR | Street Artist

JR, born in France, now is one of the most influential street artists on the world.

Most of his works use huge prints of portraits, talk about identity. His work spread worldwide. For one of my favorite projects, Inside Out, he said, "I wish for you to stand up for what you care about by participating in a global art project, and together we'll turn the world...INSIDE OUT." I actually also went to this project in Shanghai two years ago. He put a truck on street, you go into a photo booth inside this truck,  and a huge print of your photo will come out from the truck, like a large version of polaroid. Each photo will be sticked onto the ground, so that they can be seen by everyone passing by.

Through his work, each person gets the chance to come out and make a statement. You can feel the strength of human rights in his work, everyone deserves equal rights to speak out. When i was participating in the project, at first i just think the idea of making a truck into a instant camera is super awesome. But then when i got my large print and also stick onto the ground with other prints, the power of yourself got amplified more than ever.

#32 LAURA STEVENS | Stay Negative

Laura Stevens, an English photographer based in Paris.

I wonder how bad her relationship was to make so much negative works on relationship. Both of her series, <Another November> and <Us Alone>, features the loneliness and isolation one can feel in or after a relationship. The dim light and low saturation look give a silence of sadness. And i especially like the poses of models. There's a stretch of emotions in their extended legs, laid down arms, bended body and powerless fingers. The mood is assigned very subtly.

#31 WILLIAM KLEIN | Get close, get personal

William Klein, one of the most influential street photographer. His works show the wildest and most vivid America.
I love his "don't give a shit" attitude. He used a wide-angle lens, and get close to people. Imagine how close you need to get to a person to take a picture like that. Just like how he get to the subject, his photographs also get straight into your heart. Though he also made great achievements on fashion photography, he only sees fashion photography as a contract, and a way of living. He's much more into street photography, which brings him more unexpected moments and surprise. Even for fashion photography, he prefers to go on to street, even using telescope lens, so that he can capture those who don't know what's really going on. He also did a lot of experiments with fashion photography, by using different lights, and mirrors.

#30 CHLOE SELLS | C-prints

Chloe Sells, BA in photography in Rhode Island School of Design, MFA in Central St. Martins,
currently lives and works between London and Maun, Botswana.
http://chloesells.com/about/
She makes C-prints herself in darkroom, and experiments with layering, different materials.

I first thought these images are processed in digital. I was curious about how she thought of making these effects, and like where to put the specific effect. Then i realized she made these images in darkroom by hand. So it is more technically difficult and yet at the same time
there are more surprises and possibilities.
