#11 ANN WOO | Color Pallette

http://www.annwoo.com
Hong Kong photographer, Ann Woo.

The photographer crops the sunset pictures into color palettes, and so it no longer seems like to be about sunset, but about the gradual change of the color. These different shades of the color provides a feeling of fantasy. Looking at these pictures, you discover the beauty of the nature that you usually dismiss.

#10 ARVIDA BYSTORM | Queers

Arvida Bystorm, London, Stockholm and Los Angeles based photographer.

Impressive use of color on match of hair, costume, background and lighting. I can feel this freedom of body, self-confidence of the model and intense visual power from her work. And also, I am very amazed by her control of models, how she naturally reveals different characteristics of the model, but not push the model to satisfy the intention of the photographer(or maybe yes, but in a very successful way).

#9 JEANLOUP SIEFF | Wide angle

http://www.jeanloupsieff.com/#
Wide angle lens, black and white photography, and very bizarre content make his portrait stand out in  the massive portrait photography.

I especially like this one. The sphere on the top is distorted by the use of wide angle lens, which make s the model look overwhelmed at the bottom in an interesting way. And also, the high contrast makes the figure into a silhouette. It looks like the model is walking at the cracks of the planet.

#8 E.E McCollum | Nude Photography

http://eemccollum.com
Unlike many other nude photography showing the beauty of body through dance movements, this project uses silks to address the tension of bodies. Also, because of the silk material, the lighting goes more smoothly and sharp.
The great strength are presented where they fight through the constrain.

#7 QUENTIN JONES | Women, body and sexuality

Fashion photography has long been closely related with women, body and sexuality.
Quentin Jones, as a well-known fashion photographer created this series of photographs for Adult Magazine. By juxtaposing female's nude and some sexual symbols, the sexuality of women and the abuse of it gives me a strongly uncomfortable feeling. Faces and any personal characteristics are removed from the pictures. Women is treated as nothing more than a sexual being.
The extreme sense of sexuality here reflects the abuse of female in photography.

#6 ROBERT FRANK |

<The Americans>, a remarkable photography book by Robert Frank.
Technically speaking, his works are blurry, muddy and grain, shot in very low light situation. However, he successfully captured the most true reality of the post-war America in this style. Poverty, racism, and many other ugly parts of the American society at the time were reflected in this book, with 83 photos in total. <The Americans> is a significant piece for American history, and also for the development of documentary photography.

#5 LORENZO VITTURI | Use of Color

Lorenzo Vitturi
Photographer based in Italy

When it goes to portraits, the hardest part is how to bring the subject's emotional expression to the maximum. Here, we see a solution of using strong color contrasts, and even cut out most part of the subjects' faces by color papers or other objects. They are not distracting at all, but give more strength in his works. More interestingly, he brought his works into a 3-dimentional level, a vendor. The richness of layers of his works is very impressive.
